# How to embed YouTube videos

# How to embed YouTube videos

###### **Step-by-step guide on how to embed YouTube videos**

Use the **HTML Embed** card to add videos from YouTube, Streamable, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and other supported video platforms to your Linkie page.

|| Notice: The same flow applies to all supported video-sharing platforms, including YouTube, Streamable, Vimeo, and Dailymotion.

### Open HTML Embed

![](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/1/0/c/0/10c04ec9d8785f00/add-html-embed_1t72gl1.png =600xauto)

Open your Linkie page in the [playground](https://app.linkie.bio/playground), then click **HTML Embed** in the sticky menu at the bottom.

Using the sticky menu adds the new card at the top of your Linkie page as the newest post.

### Add the card at a specific position instead

Instead of using the sticky menu, hover over the gap where you want the new card to appear, then click **+ Insert**. The button appears only in gaps that span a full row, not between cards in adjacent columns. Clicking it chooses the position before you create the card.

Choose **HTML**. This opens the same creation dialog as the sticky menu. Fill in the information using the steps below. When you add the card, it appears in the gap you clicked.

### Select Paste URL

Select **Paste URL**.

### Copy the YouTube video link

![](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/1/0/c/0/10c04ec9d8785f00/image_173x1af.png =400x302)

Open the YouTube video you want to embed, then click **Share** and **Copy** to copy the video link.

### Paste the link in Linkie

Paste the YouTube link into the URL field. You can also add an optional title for tracking analytics, then click **Add Embed**.

If the website supports embedding, Linkie will generate the video preview automatically.

| Tip: You can use this flow with YouTube, Streamable, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and other video streaming platforms.

| Streamable example: `https://streamable.com/e/YOUR_VIDEO_ID`

| Vimeo example: `https://player.vimeo.com/video/YOUR_VIDEO_ID`

| Dailymotion example: `https://geo.dailymotion.com/player.html?video=YOUR_VIDEO_ID`

| Replace `YOUR_VIDEO_ID` with your own video ID and use the platform’s player URL instead of the regular video page URL.

||| Some websites do not allow their videos or posts to be embedded. If a platform disables embeds or iframes, Linkie will not be able to generate a preview from that URL.

### Choose a card shape

![](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/1/0/c/0/10c04ec9d8785f00/image_2tkj31.png =500x385)

After adding the embed, choose the card size that fits your Linkie page best:
* **Square** shows the video as a compact card that fits into your page grid. Depending on your selected layout, it will appear within your **2-column** or **3-column** grid.
* **Full** shows the video as a full-width rectangle. It takes the full width of your Linkie page and becomes the only card on that row.

### Preview your embed

![](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/1/0/c/0/10c04ec9d8785f00/step-1_127ps10.png =800x559)

Click **Preview** at the top right of the [playground](https://app.linkie.bio/playground) to see how the embedded YouTube video will look on your Linkie page. The preview will show how the video appears in both **Square** and **Full size** layouts.

### Optional: use HTML code instead

If you want to add the YouTube video with HTML embed code, choose **HTML Code** instead of **Paste URL** when creating the embed card.

Open the YouTube video, click **Share**, then select **Embed**.

Click **Copy** to copy the HTML embed code.

Go back to Linkie and paste the embed code into the HTML Code field. You can also add an optional title for tracking analytics.

||| When embedding with HTML, avoid using **event attributes** like `onclick`, because they rely on JavaScript, which many platforms block for security reasons.
